A global biotechnology company who are a market leader in their therapeutic area are looking for a Computational Chemistry Director to join their team in Oxford.
As the leader of the molecular design team, you will use computational methods of molecular design to identify molecules on lead identification and optimisation programs.
A leadership role, you will work as part of the wider leadership team in helping the business strategically deliver their R&D goals and drug pipeline. You will be responsible for establishing scientific directions and innovation for the team and incorporating projects in support of research plans for a pioneering business at the forefront of scientific innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership of molecular design team
- Oversee molecular design/computational chemistry team projects across the Oxford site and ensure these are in line with department goals
- Provide scientific leadership for the molecular design team that will impact decision making on programs
- Work collaboratively within the leadership team to achieve R&D business goals
- Create an innovative environment to drive molecular modelling and predictive modelling tools
Requirements
- Educated to degree PhD level in computational chemistry or medicinal chemistry
- Experience within computational chemistry or cheminformatics
- Previous experience working in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology sectors is highly advantageous
- Excellent knowledge of tools for computational chemistry and its use in drug discovery
- Team management experience
- Great understanding of computational methods such as structure and ligand-based virtual screening, QSAR derivation and ADME modelling
- Excellent leadership skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and spoken
